Smoking is a childhood addiction

Let's put tobacco out of sight and out of reach

The Smokefree Action Coalition wants to make sure tobacco is put out of sight and out of reach of children and we need your support.

Two thirds of smokers take up the habit before they reach adulthood - this is an addiction of childhood, not an adult choice.

The Government's Health Act 2009 contains measures to prohibit the display of tobacco at the point of sale in order to protect children from tobacco industry marketing and promotion. It also includes measure to restrict the sale of tobacco from vending machines to prevent children from easily accessing tobacco.

The Act was passed by Parliament and has received royal assent but the tobacco industry say they will fight the law in the courts. We need to make sure the new Government defends and implements the legislation.

Review of the Smokefree legislation

When Parliament voted to make public places in England smokefree, ministers promised a review of the law in 2010. We want the new Government to conduct that review to see if there are ways to make the law more effective.
